A very intereseting book, disscussing a how to build a brand oriented product based business
  • Grind: First goal is to make a sale, your actions should directly propell you to this point and nothing else (IE not networking, not)
  • Grind: Define your customer, pick one specific group
  • Grind: Outline 3 - 5 products that your core custoemr buys, if you can't choose a new market
  • Grind: Choose your first products, the gateway product that leads to other purchases, alternatively the one that interests you most, or the one that you thionk can most be improved upon
  • Grind: Choose a place to document the hourney
  • Grind: Order prototypes and place your first order, (choose supplier with the best communication all else being equal. Order as much inventory as possible unless crowd funding in which case you can wait)
  • Grind: Stack the deck, build a small but passionate audience who are actively watching your journey, Line up 10 personal contacts who are ideal custoemr and ask them to join the causes, and engage with your posts / talk about your pdouct on launch day. Give them free product and ask them to take photos. Make relationship with a micro influcnece 10K followers, or any place where 10k people who are core customer accumulate

  • The Gold: Pay yourself, 100,000 oer month reveneu, can start taking a salary. Re-invest profits but be able to live
  • The Gold: Take strategic risks. Experiment with new products that advertising,
  • The Gold: The idea of a lifetime comes every 6 months, with the process in hand you will be ready when it arrives
  • After: after all of this you need to make infrastrucutre to make sure it can run without you before you sell it or hand it off
  • After: Avoid, optimizng for vanity metrics, forgetting the people, making decisions based on algorithms
  • After: You hold all the negotiation cards not the other way around when selling yoru business, usually will stay on with some stake in the company as an advisor

  • After: Plan through your goal, not to it, otherwise burnout
  • 2 Types of people, visionarys who are energetic and emotional and come up with new ideas and builders who are calm stable and organized
  • Small brands can be agile and fix things quickly and respond to feedback well unlike big brands and this is a massive advantage
  • Its gonna mean 12 hours days, lots of red in bank accounts and working alone
  • Make sure you're enjoying the ride you're on or you'll burn out
  • Become a price setter not a price follower
  • Amazon is a research gold mine, pay attention to reviews, what do people dislike about a product
  • Check out kick starter and look at projects that raised a million dollars
  • What pain poinsts have I already solved in my life and how
  • People buy products that say something about themselves as a result banded or stylysed things with similar function can work, rifle coffee, stylish blue light blocking glasses
  • To whom are you going to sell, what do they already buy, what does your group think of similar products on the market, where does your person hangout, do you know how you will get predictable sales, what will products 2,3,4 be
  • $2 discount to subscribe to email newsletter
  • Ask your users the important questions -> which x do they prefer, what makes the difference between a good and bad x, whats wrong with your current x, what do you think of this one? and this one? Where x is your produc ttype
  • Can search for wholesalers, manufacturing companeis, contract manufacturers
  • Product doesn't have to be new just has to be different even if its just in one small way
  • Yoga matts for slightly older people with knee problems, different in thickness and cushion material
  • Split testing requires nothingmore than asking people which one of 2 things they like better
  • The most important thing sis to get feedback on why the survey respondents have a preference
  • All this is before product hits market
  • Find out what your customer wants, find out waht solving their problemm is worth to them, then charge them a little bit less than that
  • Investors aren't interesested in your idea but their ROI so there needs to be a clear plan for success, (audience? advetising, follow up products, money allocation,)
  • Great video, 10 ideal customers in your network, 1 micro influencer,
  • Debt should go into scaling inventory, not advertising
  • Need a team that will mask your weaknesses
  • Give without the expectation of receiving
  • 1000 followers, 10 personal contact, 1 influencer = 100 sales
  • Document the process of building your business
  • If your community is buzzing about something give your take on it. This will engage your audience and attract new ones
  • For approaching micro influences, heres a peice of content I think your audience wil love. Is there anything that your audicnece is struggling with that I could write about or speak to in order to serve them
  • Have a VIP list for early access and making some super fans and promoting scarcity and exculsivity (pg, 90/91)
  • As sales come in make sure to order more inventory aggressively
  • If your inventory is on back order, tell customer right on the sales page. This info might actual increase sales, showing your popular, let them order now for delayed shipping or get notified when more is in stock. The key is to let them make their own informed choice so your brand isn't tained by a forced decision
  • Kick starter prferes number of pledges over amount pledged, $1 reward level. Also early bird rewards are a huge hack for exposure, setup early bird rewars that equal your funding goal
  • Branding is important but you will care more than your customer
  • Call personally to ask if they liked the product or were having any issues (say i just wanted to make sure you had a 5 star experience)
  • Don't say hey I hope you liked the product, could you leave us a review. Say Did your oder arrive on time? I just wanted to make sure it got there when it was suppose to. Then say great I just credited $10 to your account for letting us know. Is there anything else we should know about the brand? Or anything you'd want to see in the next release? Thanks for the feedback if you feel like sharing your experience we would love your feedback in the form of an amazon review (not even sure you need to shill the review part)
  • Don't release products to quickly, give the cusomter time to breath
  • Don't pay influencers to talk about your product, trust is not passed. But if its good and they like it you can use their reach
  • Don't try to move customers from one platform to another, just go where they already are
  • Similarweb.com to find websites and blogs that are impactful. Can enter a big influencer website and get similar
  • Always give before you ask, easiest way is to give money
  • What can you offer? Quote them, reference them, offer to share their content or email their content to your list. Ask if you can feature them in your audience. Can we send our product to 25 of your people on us?
  • Influencer is good if they are a genuine and excited user
  • Influenceer world into your world via email list
  • When a influencer talks about you, make sure to make them look good. Interact with the comments, thank them pubicly, send care package to them. Also screen shot it so it can possibly become a future add
