Why Fish Don't Exist
Lulu Miller
An excellent book regarding how humans think about order and chaos and meaning in life
Generally this book was more of a fun light memoir with some touching's on various deep philosophical ideas like the meaning of life. The notes below are more of the big philosophical take aways, not an indepth summary of the ideas and stories presented.
- Humans try and impose order on things via arbitrary categories that may have nothing to do with objective truth. For example the category of Fish is very poor in that some things we describe as fish are more closely related to cows than other fish (lung fish and cow vs salmon).
- Life has meaning by supporting and loving and feeling emotions and all of those things matter to you and the people you do them with / to.
- Chaos will always reign and what you take as meaning from chaos is up to you, and will differ vastly from person to person
- Eugenics is bad
